A local art store often puts wooden canvases on sale. During one of these sales I purchased some small ones to see how it would be to work on wood. Last Friday inspired by a meme I started almost 5 years ago now, I made this little piece. I used watercolors, colored pencils, and a white paint pen for the painting and the magenta edges are acrylic. I am extremely happy with how this came out. This panda is my current benchmark for how the rest of my work should look.

  2. Casey, I love this! The texture is wonderful!
    How big is it?
And with the risk of sounding ignorant, can you tell me what a meme is? I’ve been hearing it lately and have been wondering!
    Hope to see you soon!

  3. Thanks Jim and Sarah 🙂

Sarah, the piece is 4 x 4″. A meme is a start of something where you post something like, I will do 5 pieces of art for the first 5 people to sign up in the comments, but to sign up you also have to offer the same thing on your blog. Does that make sense?

  4. Yes! I’ve seen a few of those on FB and blogs recently bit didn’t know they had a name. I wonder where the word came from.
Lucky person who gets this panda!

  5. As usual, wikipedia has the answer to that:

A meme, a relatively newly coined term, identifies ideas or beliefs that are transmitted from one person or group of people to another. The concept comes from an analogy: as genes transmit biological information, memes can be said to transmit idea and belief information.
